Sleep Apnea

What is Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) occurs when the tongue and palate collapse onto the back of the throat. Complete collapse results in little or no air moving into the lungs. Partial collapse leads to more turbulent airflow and results in snoring.

Signs and Symptoms of OSA:

  • Daytime Sleepiness
  • Snoring
  • Witnessed Gasping
  • Morning Headaches
  • Unrefreshing Sleep
  • Depression
  • Loss of Energy
  • Forgetfulness

Treating Sleep Apnea and Snoring

Obstructive Sleep Apnea can be treated via three primary routes: CPAP, dental device, or surgery. We at Dzuban Dental Associates focus solely on   the treatment of OSA with a dental device. Dental devices are small oral appliances worn in the mouth similar to a retainer. Dental devices work   by keeping the jaw and tongue in a forward position away from the back of the throat, preventing crowding and collapse of the airway. Most   patients find dental devices much more comfortable and far less invasive than CPAP. Traveling with a dental device is EASY and they require no   electricity, cords, or hoses.
